Two months from the patent's issue date, in person or through Gosuslugi — and why the employer's notification doesn't replace yours.

2 min read

You file this notification yourself, after you have received the patent and signed a contract.

Deadline — two months from the patent's issue date

The date of the employment contract doesn't affect this deadline, even if the contract is signed later. The count runs from the date printed on the patent itself.

In practice this means: if you signed the contract on day 58, you have two days left for the notification.

Where to file

With the MVD division that issued the patent. Two ways:

  1. In person.
  2. Through Gosuslugi.

Use one of them. Documents sent by post don't reach the division.

What to attach

A copy of the employment or civil-law contract.

If the civil-law contract was concluded orally, there is nothing to attach: the contract details are entered directly in the notification.

If you don't file it, the patent can be cancelled

This is one of the most common ways people lose a patent, because they find out too late: the person is working, there is a contract, but the notification was never filed.

The employer's notification

The employer has a notification of their own — about concluding the contract, within 3 working days, on the forms of MVD Order No. 290 of 12.05.2026.

These two obligations exist in parallel and don't cancel each other. The employer filed their notification — you still file yours.

Law

Form and filing procedure — MVD Order No. 655 of 05.09.2023; the two-month deadline from the patent's issue date is set by clause 1 of the Filing Procedure. The employer's notification — MVD Order No. 290 of 12.05.2026.

  • How to check an employer

Ten minutes before you sign: five checks, a check on yourself and the questions worth asking the employer directly.

  • EAEU citizens

No patent and no exam, but registration, the medical examination and fingerprinting are mandatory — and that is exactly where EAEU citizens most often lose money.
